At the Sydney ‘Debonairs’ November charity luncheon, Frank was serenaded by his many showbiz pals including (pictured) Shannon Bacall, Martin Erdman, Donnie Sutherland OAM, Nicki Gillis and Jim White, to celebrate Frank’s forthcoming birthday.
Winner of the 2009 Frank Ifield International Spur Award, NICKI GILLIS, has completed her 2nd tour of the UK appearing with great success at major festivals and clubs.
Nicki’s version of I Remember You featuring Frank Ifield is receiving great airplay and country chart action. This week it is at #3 on the Swedish airplay chart, #7 in France and #14 in the overall European survey!

The evening of Tuesday 11th May saw the large cabaret room of Bankstown Sports Club packed to capacity with a glittering array of Australian showbiz stars to mark the 34th Annual ‘MO’ Awards.
It promised to be a special day to me as well, as under the new directorship, I had been selected along with fellow artistes Brian Cadd and Barry Crocker A.M. to be their Patron. The evening was Hosted by Donny Sutherland OAM and he called on me to present our current ‘Music & Arts Talent Search’ winner, the beautiful young opera singer Rhian Saunders to perform, who did us proud with her immaculate performance.
I whooped for joy to see my friend walking proudly to the stage to receive his well-deserved award under the category of ‘Best Instrumental or Vocal Instrumental’. Yes – Congratulations BOB HOWE, you pulled it off against some stiff competition.
The night continued with an exciting variety of awards but I was very touched by Normie Rowe AM singing the stirring Colin Greatorix composition ‘What Have You Done For Australia’ followed by his introduction to Australian Wartime Hero Keith Payne VC to present the ‘John Campbell Fellowship Award’ to acknowledge the contribution by ‘Our Girls’ Lorrae Desmond MBE; Dinah Lee; Little Pattie OAM; Sylvia Raye; Lynne Fletcher; and Jacqui De Paul for giving their time freely while risking life and limb in order to entertain our troops during the Vietnam war.
The heart pumping moment for me came at the end of the night when they announced the HALL OF FAME AWARD. Warren Kermond OAM brought to the stage KAMAHL AM and I thought yes, very fitting that he should receive this award…but wait a minute! The penny dropped…he is relating the story of my life. I gazed at my beautiful wife Carole (pictured above right) whose radiant smile let me know that she had known all along.
I thank my peers and the MO Awards for making this night totally unforgettable for me and I shall treasure my statuette of the legendary character of ‘Mo’ who was a giant radio star of my own youth.

Wed 20th January 2010 – 9am, Tamworth Town Hall
This one-off show at the Tamworth Town Hall is an opportunity for our host
Frank Ifield to pay tribute to the International success of three worthy winners of his Spur Award – each one having proved a credit to Australian Country Music, both here and on the world stage.
Looking back to 1996, during the early concept of the ‘Galston Country Music Festival’, it was decided by the Rotary Club of Galston that their festival’s patron, Frank Ifield OAM should present his own highly unique award and that they would sponsor it to promote and further the careers of Australian Independent Country Music talent for the world market. Only one award is presented each year at a special ‘Frank Ifield Awards Night’.
1999 saw the Spur Award being presented from stage during Frank’s own radio show on the 2KY Radio Network to Mike Carr who has since gone on to achieve great heights as a singer and prolific songwriter. Then the new century spawned new concepts and the award became known as ‘The Frank Ifield International Spur Award’ utilising Frank’s expertise to further promote our Australian talent overseas.
Our 2003 winner Donna Boyd had a string of European top ten hits and toured the UK and Ireland during 2004.
Then last year saw the talented Nicki Gillis win the award and a very successful tour of the UK was undertaken last July with a follow-up tour already for 2010. Along with these wonderful artists, Frank will be introducing you to the debut of a bright young talented performer Johanna Hemara who is also doing her Tamworth Record Launch.
All this plus the Bob Howe and the Hillbilly Heaven Band makes this ‘once-only’ show a must-see! It is guaranteed to bring to you great country music entertainment of world class standard.
